Why a good mood is a good thing?
A good mood is something that many people want to have with them. Because in addition to having a positive impact on relationships with others, it may help promote good health and prevent the occurrence of certain diseases such as heart disease. We can all develop a good mood easily, starting with changing our thoughts and behaviours.
What should you do if you want to be in a good mood?
Personality is one of the factors that results in the different emotions of each person. Cheerful and optimistic people are usually in a good mood and easily happy. However, a good mood can be created by yourself. Change behaviour and create an environment conducive to good mood.
- Adjust your thoughts towards yourself, other people, or the environment around them. It affects people’s emotions quite a lot. Therefore, changing your mind is a basic way to help strengthen a good mood, including:
- Avoid blaming yourself.
- Try to look at the situation around you in a positive way and think about good things that will happen in the future, such as activities you want to do on holidays.
- Change behaviour. Different aspects of a person’s behaviour not only affect their physical health, but also affect their mental and emotional health. Strengthening behaviours that affect making emotions happy including:
- Get enough sleep because too little sleep will affect your emotional state the next day.You should be sleeping about 7-9 hours.
- Eat a healthy diet, with an emphasis on
- cereal, vegetable and fruit
- foods rich in protein
- Omega-3
- Vitamin D. Found in egg yolks, salmon, tuna, sardines, and cod liver oil, vitamin D helps the body release more serotonin, a neurotransmitter in the brain related to emotional expression.
- Avoid drinking alcohol, smoking, and all kinds of drugs.
- Try to smile and your brain will respond to the smile and tell you to feel happy.
- Go outside your residence for activities such as walking, cycling or landscaping to change the atmosphere and get fresh air.
- Do activities that help you feel relaxed, such as drawing, listening to music, meditating, etc.
- When there is a problem that makes you feel uncomfortable. Talk to someone you trust. Whether it’s friends or family members.
- Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day (on at least 3 days/week) because exercise contributes to the body’s release of endorphins, which are brain chemicals that help to produce more good moods.
- Allocate the activities that need to be done each day appropriately.
- Create an environment that is conducive to a good mood, such as arranging a clean and neat residence. It is well ventilated and sunny, so it may help to improve mood.
How does a good mood affect health?
A good state of mind and mood not only promotes external personality and builds relationships with others. It also improves overall health as follows:
- Strengthens good lifestyle habits, such as
- Choosing foods that are beneficial to the body.
- Regularly excercise.
- Have a healthy sleeping habit.
- Prevents heart disease: Having a good mood may help lower blood pressure, which is one of the main causes of heart disease. It may also reduce the risk of fatality for person with heart conditions.
- Lowering the level of the hormone cortisol. When people feel stressed, the body will secrete more cortisol which can:
- worsen sleep health and increase weight gain. May cause diabetes
- increase risk of hypertension.
- Strengthen the immune system: People in a good mood are less likely to catch a cold or discomfort than people who don’t get enough sleep or sleep less.
