Chikungunya fever is another disease that comes with the rainy season.

Chikungunya fever or mosquito-borne disease. When infected, the symptoms are similar to dengue fever and Zika fever, but there are some symptoms that differ to help isolate the disease.

Chikungunya Transmission

Chikungunya is a disease caused by infection with the Chikungunya virus, a virus belonging to the Togaviridae family, with garden mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus) and house mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti) as carriers. It’s ommonly found the both in city and countrysite. It usually spreads during the rainy season or waterlogged area.Mosquitoes are often abundant and active during the day, making children who like to play outside or in school a vulnerable group to the disease. In addition, pregnant women with chikungunya can also pass it on to their babies.

Symptoms of Chikungunya Disease

Because dengue fever and chikungunya are also carried by mosquitoes, and the symptoms are similar, patients may be found with both diseases at the same time.

Symptoms Differences Between Chikungunya and Dengue Fever

Chikungunya Fever

Chikungunya has an incubation period of 3-7 days after being bitten by a striped mosquito.
Acute high fever which may reach 40 degrees Celsius. After 2-3 days, the fever will begin to subside.
Red eyes, red rash
Joint pain, muscle pain
No low platelets until bleeding

Dengue fever

Dengue fever has an incubation period of 5-8 days after being bitten by a striped mosquito.
High fever
Numerous red rashes.
Less aches and pains
Low platelets – bleeding

Prevention of chikungunya fever

Maintain the cleanliness of the house, destroy the mosquito breeding grounds without flooding.
Plant trees or arrange the garden to be airy and sunny.
Sleep under a mosquito net or in a room with mosquito nets prevent mosquito bites.
-During the outbreak of mosquitoes. Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and mosquito repellent, even during the day.
